Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have a disability;  can I still stay at the guesthouse?

Yes, of course.  We welcome everyone, regardless of their age, cultural or ethnic background, political or religious beliefs, gender identity, sexual orientation or ability.

Who are your typical guests?

  • Tourists and visitors

  • Group bookings
  • Visiting friends and relatives of Uki residents

  • Anyone who appreciates easy access such as people with mobility difficulties and wheelchair users

  • People who require a little extra care and assistance due to health issues, mature age, disability, or during the recovery period following an illness
  • Those who normally receive assistance from their families and carers but who, for one reason or another, are temporarily separated
  • Carer respite

What is the difference between a guesthouse and a B&B?   Why choose a guesthouse?

Actually a guesthouse is a type of B&B, along with farmstay and homestay (traditional B&B’s). Guesthouses are generally larger than most B&B’s but smaller than most hotels and motels.

Guesthouses are particularly noted for their warm hospitality, and range in quality from backpacker-style through to 5 star luxury.  The Uki Guesthouse has 4 stars.

The greatest difference between guesthouses and other forms of accommodation is that the emphasis is on relaxed and easy social interaction between guests.  The actual physical layout, comfortable furnishings and dedication of space for communal use makes for easy conversation and relaxation.  It is well-suited to common interest groups and others wishing to bond more closely together.

Whereas smaller establishments can be too intense and larger ones socially isolating, guesthouses are ideally suited to those who enjoy their privacy and welcome the opportunity to socialize with others.

If you crave solitude and seclusion, a guesthouse is not a good choice for a holiday.

Can you assist people with significant disabilities?

Generally yes, although it depends on your level of care and requirements.  Guests with significant disabilities are requested to complete a confidential Guest Profile, following which we complete a Hazard Risk Assessment and return a quotation.

We have access to a large range of facilities.   You are, of course, welcome to bring your own attendant.

Do you cater for children?

We do not have any special facilities for children.

May I bring my dog?

Guide dogFully trained, certified assistance dogs are always welcome.  Please discuss your needs with us at time of booking.

Obedient, well-behaved, quiet companion dogs may also be accepted with prior arrangement.

In all cases, dogs MUST be fully immunised, well-groomed, clean and have clipped nails.  Dogs must be under the control of their owners at all times. Owners are totally responsible for the care and behaviour of their dogs, including their safety, feeding, bedding, exercise and toilet.  (Doggie poo bags available on request.)
